Cross Docking: a distribution system in which merchandise received at the warehouse or distribution center is not put away, but instead is readied for shipment to retail stores. Cross docking requires close synchronization of all inbound and outbound shipment movements. By eliminating the put-away, storage and selection operations, it can significantly reduce distribution costs.
We at AFTER HOURS LOGISTICS understand the effectiveness of cross docking. Many companies are looking to cross docking in order to maximize efficiencies. This service allows a company to ship goods to a regional hub where the shipment can be consolidated, if necessary, and then moved almost immediately on to its destination. The shipments are cleared from the warehouse very quickly, reducing carrying costs, eliminating storage, increasing inventory turns and speeding up delivery to the customer. -
For retailers, we can establish direct-to-store programs, cross-docking and inventory reduction programs.
Imagine shipments from your vendors to your customers orchestrated and combined together so that everything arrives in the shortest amount of time with minimum handling and maximum savings. We at AFTER HOURS LOGISTICS provide our clients the ability to meet the business requirements of leading department store and discount retail organizations, including product marking, bar coding, and electronic integration. We can help you deal with significant seasonal peaks, inventory positioning, rapid and accurate replenishment, and vendor-managed inventory requirements.
Cross docking has three distinguishing characteristics:
- Product sits in the staging area for the minimum of time, while every effort is made to facilitate flow from receiving to shipping.
- Product goes directly from receiving to shipping, or at worst stays on the dock or forward picking area. It never gets put into storage.
- A specific system is in place to ensure efficient exchange of both product and information, giving particular attention to matching and scheduling of inbound and outbound shipments, such that product flows through the facility as quickly as possible.
- Customers’ benefits from cross docking service:
- Enhances their response time to their customers. Customers want product on their shelves tomorrow-not three days later. Cross docking accelerates the flow of product through the supply chain.
- Reduces significant costs. Cross docking offers significant savings in inventory costs because product is not stored in the warehouse, but immediately processed for shipping. Costs for labour previously used to put away or move this inventory are reduced and in many cases eliminated.

- Freight Bill Audit
One of the services AFTER HOURS LOGISTICS provide to its clients is Freight Bill Audit. Freight Bill Audit service is typically we audit your freight bills in accordance with your carrier contract or carrier tariff. We then pay the carrier’s freight bill according to your directions. We also provide many different types of report.Generally, there are two types of freight bill auditing process.
Pre-Audits: are performed BEFORE the freight bill is paid; therefore the adjustment is made before payment, with a reference to the authority used for the reduction.
Post-Audits: are similar to pre-audits, except that an overcharge claim must be filed in a timely manner for recovery from the carrier. Post-audit is a systematic review of paid freight bills and/or vendor invoices by experienced auditors at AFTER HOURS LOGISTICS. Upon discovery of errors, we file claims with instructions that refunds be made payable to you and forwarded to AFTER HOURS LOGISTICS for posting and processing. Recoveries (refunds or credit memos) are divided between the customer and AFTER HOURS LOGISTICS. You pay nothing if we recover nothing. It is reported that one out of every five bills may be in error.
Benefits of using our Freight Bill Audit service:
- Cost Savings: in addition to freight bill audit savings, After Hours Logistics service eliminates the need for extensive, and often inaccurate, internal accounts payable processing associated overhead.
- Improved carrier Relations: After Hours Logistics service helps maintain customer relations with carriers on the best possible basis by issuing checks in a timely manner.
